MIJAS

It offers the traveler the contrast between the traditional image of these lands and the adaptation to our time, all without losing the essence. The walk through whitewashed corners, patios, gardens, hermitages ... the town retains the leisurely pace and charm of yesteryear, sheltered by the mountains and extending the view to the countryside and the sea. We invite you to visit the old town and the most interesting places of it.
Its historic center (declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1969) has a layout of Arab origin with whitewashed streets, which are a makeshift balcony overlooking the Mediterranean. The bullring, oval in shape; the Parish Church of the Immaculate Conception; or the sanctuary of the Virgen de Peña (17th century), the patron saint of the town, are some emblematic monuments. Also its old Arab wall, through which balconies and gardens run that give the traveler a splendid panoramic view of the Costa del Sol. On the back of their donkey-taxis, we can take a short tour of the town.
Several are the museums that add greater attraction to its tourist offer: the Carromato de Mijas (collection of miniatures), the Casa Museo de la Villa (historical-ethnological museum), the contemporary art center with works by Picasso, Dalí and Miró ( CAC Mijas), the Flour Mill and the Torres Vigías interpretation center in the Torreón de La Cala (Mijas coast).

In addition to some tourist peculiarities, such as donkey taxis , Mijas Pueblo offers the visitor several interesting historical buildings to visit, such as the tiny Plaza de Toros , irregularly shaped; two hermitages from the 17th century, the remains of the old Arab wall in which some beautiful gardens are located and the interesting Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Peña , patron saint of the town. The I Church of the Immaculate Conception stands out. Its construction began in the second half of the 16th century and was completed in mid-1631, attached to an old watchtower that became its bell tower. From almost anywhere in the town you can see the white Hermitage of Calvario , located at a somewhat higher level.
